Student Kills Leopard Trying to Attack Him with a Stone; Forest Officials Praise His Bravery

Himachal Pradesh: An 18-year-old, Pravesh Sharma, killed a leopard that tried to attack him. National media reported that the young man killed the leopard with a stone in order to save his life during the attack. The incident took place in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. Pravesh Sharma is a second-year ITI student.
On Monday at around 7 a.m., Pravesh Sharma was attacked by a leopard while he was on his way to collect milk in Sarli village in the Arki area. The young man said he held the animal’s jaws with his hands to prevent it from biting his neck. During the struggle, he shouted loudly for help in an attempt to escape. However, there was no one nearby at the time.
The struggle with the leopard continued for nearly 10 minutes. In a desperate attempt to save his life, Pravesh picked up a nearby stone and repeatedly struck the animal on its head and jaw. Pravesh Sharma said he kept hitting the leopard with the stone until it stopped attacking. Eventually, the animal died, allowing the student to escape from the spot.The attack left the student with serious injuries to his hands, shoulders, and legs.
He was admitted to a hospital in Arki. After learning about the incident, forest department officials visited the student and praised his courage. Officials said he was discharged from the hospital the same day after receiving treatment. They also stated that he was given Rs 5,000 as emergency assistance. Local residents said that a leopard had been spotted in the area over the past few days and had attacked several people.
