Death Toll Rises to Seven in Delhi Satya Niketan Hostel Collapse, Around 20 Still Missing

New Delhi: The death toll from the collapse of a hostel building in Satya Niketan, South Delhi, has risen to seven after another body was recovered during a late-night search, with ten others injured. Around 20 people are still unaccounted for and rescue operations continue at the site, with teams working to clear debris and determine whether anyone else remains trapped.

The building collapsed around 1.30 pm on Sunday. Local residents rushed to the spot within minutes and began rescue efforts, as the fire brigade took time to arrive despite being alerted immediately. Residents and students from nearby buildings also joined the rescue, with some bringing oxygen cylinders and pumping air through gaps in the rubble for those feared to be facing breathing difficulties beneath.

Teams of the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) were involved in the rescue operation. 

The "Hostel Daze" building, located near Delhi University South Campus, was over 40 years old. Delhi Police have registered a case against building owner Anand Bansal in connection with the incident.
