New Delhi: A high-intensity blast near Delhi's Red Fort on Monday evening left eight people dead and 20 injured, officials said. The explosion, which also caused 22 nearby vehicles—including an e-rickshaw—to catch fire, originated from a Hyundai i20 hatchback bearing Haryana number plates.

According to sources, the car’s original owner was Mohd Salman, who later sold it to a man named Nadeem. Salman has been arrested by police in Gurugram, Haryana.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said, "At 6.55 pm, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light. An explosion occurred inside the vehicle, damaging nearby vehicles as well. The situation is under control."

Deputy Chief Fire Officer AK Malik told ANI that the fire resulting from the blast was brought under control by 7.29 pm, with seven fire units initially rushed to the scene.
