Where Is the Union Home Minister? Opposition Demands Amit Shah's Presence in Parliament

New Delhi: The Opposition continues to demand that Union Home Minister Amit Shah attend Parliament on at least the 17th day of the ongoing Monsoon Session. Both Houses are likely to witness further disruptions today as the Opposition intensifies its protest, demanding that Shah appear in Parliament and respond to allegations of police violence against students. Amit Shah has not attended the House even after 16 days of the Monsoon Session.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had claimed on Tuesday that Amit Shah was ready to respond in the House to the issue of the crackdown on students. However, the government continues to remain non-committal about when the Home Minister will attend Parliament. The Centre is facing mounting pressure in Parliament over police violence against students as well as allegations of large-scale corruption in the construction of the Ayodhya Ram temple.

With the session scheduled to conclude in two days, the Opposition is seeking to expose what it calls the government's double standards through sustained protests. Apart from the police action against students, the Opposition remains firm on its demand for an immediate discussion on the alleged irregularities and corruption related to the Ayodhya Ram temple.

Meanwhile, a bill seeking to officially change the name of Kerala to 'Keralam' was scheduled to be introduced by Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha. However, in the Home Minister's absence, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai introduced the bill.
