Murli Manohar Joshi Launches Scathing Criticism of Modi Government Over Corruption, Crises in Education Sector

New Delhi: BJP veteran and one of the party’s founding leaders Murli Manohar Joshi has launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led BJP government, accusing it of being mired in corruption and failing to give adequate attention to education sector.

Joshi questioned how a government steeped in corruption could address crises such as question paper leaks and asked why poor students were being blamed for the problems.

“Education is not among the central government’s top priorities,” Joshi said. He stressed that infrastructure development is not limited to building roads. Roads alone are not enough; institutions capable of producing qualified engineers are also necessary.

He said the education sector lacks a clear long-term objective and described the gap between higher education and employment opportunities as alarming. Education must be linked with employment and made economically productive, he said.

Postgraduate degree holders and PhD graduates are working in low-level jobs in municipal offices, Joshi said. He added that apart from establishing new colleges, the government has failed to ensure quality employment opportunities for students.

Joshi had earlier extended his support to student and youth protests. He had said that students’ concerns over the conduct of examinations were genuine and that the issue should be addressed with empathy rather than suppressed.
