Reception committee set up in Mumbai ahead of AIKS Central Kisan Committee meeting

Mumbai: Preparations have begun in Mumbai for the upcoming meeting of the Central Kisan Committee (CKC) of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), with organisers constituting a reception committee to oversee arrangements for the two-day event scheduled for June 28–29, 2026.

The committee was formed at a meeting held on June 20 at CITU’s Sangharsh Office in Bhandup, attended by representatives from several mass organisations associated with farmers, workers, students and women’s movements.

The newly formed reception committee will be headed by CITU State Secretary Dr S K Rege as President, while JASS (DSMM) Convenor Shailendra Kamble has been appointed Secretary. The meeting also elected multiple vice-presidents and joint secretaries to coordinate preparations.

Participants discussed logistical planning and hospitality arrangements for more than 70 members expected to attend the CKC meeting in Mumbai.

Addressing the gathering, AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale reflected on recent struggles led by the organisation and underlined the political importance of the forthcoming meeting. He noted that the Mumbai session is expected to be the first Central Kisan Committee meeting of the AIKS to be held in the city.

Dhawale also pointed out that the meeting assumes added significance as it will be the final CKC session before the organisation’s upcoming National Conference to be held in Telangana.

The preparatory meeting brought together leaders and representatives from allied organisations including CITU, AIDWA, BUCTU, DYFI, SFI and JASS.

The proceedings were chaired by Prof Tapati Mukhopadhyaya. Among those present were Dr S K Rege, Dr Vivek Monteiro, Sonya Gill, Prof Madhu Paranjape, Adv Armaity Irani, K R Raghu, P M Vartak, Adv Chandrakant Bojgar, Akash Bagul, Ashok Pawar, Kamal Rawat, Ramchandra Mhatre, Bhushan Patil and Sanjay Thakur, along with other members of participating organisations.
