Stalin Responds Sharply to Vijay’s Debt Burden Allegations

Chennai: M K Stalin has responded sharply to allegations raised by newly sworn-in Chief Minister Vijay against the previous government soon after assuming office in Tamil Nadu.

In a post shared on Facebook, Stalin said a government should not begin its tenure by claiming that the State treasury is empty. He remarked that what truly matters in governance is administrative capability and the determination to deliver for the people.

The statement came in response to criticism made by Vijay during his swearing-in speech, where the new Chief Minister alleged that the previous administration had left behind a debt burden of nearly ₹10 lakh crore. Stalin rejected the claim, saying the State’s financial position had already been clearly explained in the February budget.

He further advised the new administration to make only practical and achievable promises, warning against attempts to mislead voters or divert attention from real issues. Stalin also defended his government’s record, stating that despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, devastating floods, and what he described as neglect from the BJP-led central government, the DMK administration implemented numerous welfare schemes over the past five years.

Stalin added that Vijay had come to power promising only realistic commitments and would now gradually understand the complexities of governance and the challenges involved in fulfilling election assurances. He concluded the message by extending his wishes to the new Chief Minister and expressing hope that the government would successfully implement its promises to the people.
