Ahmedabad: In Gujarat, all ministers in the BJP government have resigned except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The collective resignation comes ahead of a major cabinet reshuffle scheduled for Friday. The move is reportedly part of a strategy directed by the party’s national leadership to counter growing anti- incumbency sentiment and refresh the government’s image.
Chief Minister Patel has accepted the resignations of all ministers, according to reports. The new cabinet is expected to be sworn in around 11.30 am on Friday.
Patel will soon meet Governor Acharya Devvrat to formally submit the resignations and initiate the new appointments. Reports suggest that the ministry will be expanded from 16 to 26 members.
The development follows a meeting in Delhi between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat BJP president C R Patil, and Chief Minister Patel. The resignations are seen as the outcome of discussions held during that meeting.
