Imphal: Fresh violence has erupted in Senapati district of Manipur, where clashes broke out between Naga and Kuki groups even as efforts were underway to restore peace. The confrontation reportedly began after an ambush targeting civilians, triggering retaliatory attacks between the two communities.
Several people are reported to have been injured in the violence, with vehicles and houses also damaged. Tensions had been simmering in the region over the past few days, eventually escalating into open conflict.
Following incidents of gunfire and stone-pelting, a large deployment of security forces has been made in the district. Authorities have imposed strict restrictions, including curfew, to prevent the spread of violence. The latest developments are seen as further deepening divisions among tribal communities in the state.
Senior police officials have reached the area to assess the situation. With unrest already affecting other parts of Manipur, the fresh outbreak of violence in Senapati has added to the challenges facing the government. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading misinformation.
