Four Kuki-Zo Members Killed in Multiple Attacks in Manipur on Sunday

Guwahati: Four members of the Kuki-Zo community, including two women, were killed in two separate attacks in Manipur's Tamenglong and Noney districts on Sunday, according to reports. A woman and a child were also reported injured, and another woman was said to be missing.

The first attack occurred early Sunday morning at Tollen Kuki village, under Kaimai police station in Tamenglong district, when unidentified armed men opened fire at a residence. A woman was killed on the spot, while her husband and their infant son were wounded.

The husband later died of his injuries while being taken for treatment to Silchar in neighbouring Assam. Security personnel reached the village and helped evacuate the injured.

Later in the day, a second attack took place near Longpi village under Nungba police station in Noney district, where armed men fired on a group of villagers who were transporting rice. Accordi g to reports, two more people were killed in that incident.

No group has claimed responsibility, though local Kuki organisations have pointed to suspected naga insurgent groups in the area.

The organisation condemned the violence against civilians and demanded that the perpetrators be identified, apprehended, and brought to justice within 24 hours.

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the killings, calling violence against civilians unacceptable, and extended condolences to the bereaved families while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
