Long March in Maharashtra Surges Like a Red Tide; Tens of Thousands Unite

Mumbai: Tens of thousands of people have joined the long march in Maharashtra, demanding action on various livelihood issues. The march is being organised by farmers and workers under the leadership of the All India Kisan Sabha and CITU. It began on Tuesday from Rajur taluka and will cover 148 km on foot, passing through Akole, Sangamner, and Loni before reaching the Ahalyanagar Collectorate.

The long march is receiving an enthusiastic welcome along the route, with students and youth joining in solidarity. The main demands include the implementation of approved requests from the Nashik–Thane–Palghar long marches and the 2023 Akole–Loni long march, as well as honoring assurances given regarding the Nashik–Pune high-speed railway.

In the context of the long march, a three-hour discussion was held at the Akole Tahsildar’s office, attended by Additional Collector Balasaheb Kolekar, the District Police Chief, and other officials. While the district authorities have expressed a favorable stance on implementing the approved demands, the demands at the state level remain unresolved. Discussions with the concerned ministers are still necessary.

Until a decision is reached, the Kisan Sabha, CITU, and other supporting organisations have decided to continue the protest.
