New Delhi: A joint march by Left student organisations will be held in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest is being led by the SFI, AISF, AISA, PSU and AISB.

The organisations are demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, action against him, withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and implementation of reforms in election commission. The protest comes after police brutally assaulted student and political organisations during protests held the previous day.

Delhi and other parts of the country have become centres of protests involving thousands of people, highlighting lapses by the Election Commission. People from different social and cultural backgrounds and with different political affiliations have been coming together to protect democratic values.

However, the administration is unleashing attacks on peaceful protests on a daily basis.

The joint organisations said in a statement that Delhi Police have assaulted protesters and resorted to lathi charges. Protesters are being dragged, beaten and mistreated by the police. Journalists have also faced similar incidents of violence.

The organisations said the protest is being intensified against such attacks. They also appealed to all those who believe in democracy to extend solidarity with the protest.
