New Delhi: Five major Left parties in the country—the CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) Liberation, RSP, and Forward Bloc—have jointly condemned the United States’ bombing of Iran, calling it a serious violation of Iranian sovereignty and international law. In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the parties warned that the US strikes, carried out in coordination with Israel, will escalate global tensions and destabilise the entire West Asian region.
The statement rejects the US-Israeli claim that Iran was on the verge of building a nuclear weapon. Citing the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi, the parties noted that as recently as June 19, the agency had found no evidence of any systematic nuclear weapons development by Iran. They also pointed out that even US intelligence had admitted it had no conclusive proof against Iran. Iran remains a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), making the justification for military action hollow.
The Left parties accused Israel of launching the first strike on June 12 to derail any chance of a negotiated settlement. Despite an earlier two-week window for talks announced by the US, Washington went ahead and joined the assault, showing, according to the statement, that the US-Israel axis is intent on war and imperialist domination of West Asia.
They warned that this aggression is not just about military action but also about protecting the interests of the global arms industry and corporate capital, which are facing a deep and prolonged crisis. The use of B-2 stealth bombers and bunker-busting bombs to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities, they said, recalls the invasion of Iraq based on false claims—a war that caused massive destruction and long-term instability.
Highlighting the potential impact on India, the statement warned that this conflict will lead to a surge in global oil prices and threaten the livelihoods of lakhs of Indian workers in West Asia. The working class and the poor in India will bear the brunt of the economic consequences.
The Left parties urged the Indian government to abandon its pro-US, pro-Israel foreign policy and instead align with international efforts to stop the war. They also called upon all their party units across the country to organise protest actions and appealed to all peace-loving people to unite in opposition to this act of aggression.
