Thiruvananthapuram: John Brittas, MP, has shared viral footage showing rats running among patients at Gorakhpur Medical College in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the stark contrast between the deteriorating conditions in a BJP -governed state and Kerala’s healthcare system.

Brittas criticised attempts to blame Kerala, noting that the state continues to rank among the best in India for healthcare despite financial strangulation by central government. He pointed out that the home state of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who had previously visited Kerala to lecture on healthcare, is itself grappling with serious hospital management issues.

“Even with tragedies such as oxygen shortages affecting children in Uttar Pradesh, lessons on healthcare are being presented to Kerala as if we need correcting, while Kerala’s system runs efficiently,” Brittas said. He added that recent visits by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the expected guidance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi follow a similar pattern of showing Kerala how to improve.

“This is the condition at Gorakhpur Medical College, a model BJP state. The Orthopedic Ward itself reflects the current state of affairs,” he concluded.
