New Delhi: Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha. He had arrived in Delhi on Thursday to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Kamal Haasan stated that the journey to Parliament is a matter of pride and that he will strive to live up to the expectations of the people. On Thursday, six Rajya Sabha members from Tamil Nadu retired after completing their term. Kamal Haasan enters the Rajya Sabha as part of the DMK–MNM alliance.
Earlier, Kamal Haasan submitted his nomination papers in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and other party leaders. In last year's Lok Sabha elections, Makkal Needhi Maiam had extended support to the DMK. Kamal had initially planned to contest from Coimbatore, where BJP's former state president Annamalai was in the fray. However, at the DMK’s request, Kamal withdrew his candidature and instead campaigned for the DMK.
