New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Dr. John Brittas has strongly criticized the India–US trade agreement, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sacrificed India’s interests for the United States. He claimed that under the trade deal, the country’s wealth could effectively be handed over to the US.

Brittas said that Donald Trump announced the agreement while billions of Indians are kept in the dark India, and that the Central Government should have clarified to the public that Modi, not Trump, is India’s Prime Minister.

He mocked Modi for doing Trump's bidding by following the American agenda and called it humiliating that the Prime Minister responded late at night to Trump’s announcement on social media.

The MP said the agreement touches a critical issue affecting millions of people. According to him, the tariff hike was a pressure tactic to sell American products in India, and Modi has succumbed to Trump’s pressure.

Recently, Modi and Trump reportedly agreed to reduce tariffs on Indian products from 25% to 18%. In return, Trump revealed that India would purchase oil from Venezuela led by American companies.
