George Kurian Resigns from Union Cabinet After Rajya Sabha Term Ends

New Delhi: George Kurian has resigned from the Union Cabinet after he was not reconsidered for Parliament following the completion of his Rajya Sabha term. President has accepted his resignation. While the official explanation is that he will return to focus on party organisational work, reports suggest he is unhappy at not having received the recognition he felt he deserved.
When the third Modi government took office, George Kurian had been appointed Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, with the appointment widely seen as aimed at courting a particular vote bank. He had contested in the last Assembly election from Kanjirappally but was decisively rejected by voters.
