New Delhi: India has initiated the evacuation of its citizens from Iran amid rising tensions following the Iran-Israel conflict. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the first evacuation flight is expected to land in Delhi around 2 AM on Wednesday. The flight is departing from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran had earlier issued advisories urging all Indian nationals to relocate to safer areas within Iran. In a social media post, the embassy specifically requested those in Tehran who are able to travel to move to secure locations outside the city. Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin (PIOs) have also been asked to remain vigilant given the volatile situation.
Thousands of Indian nationals currently reside in Iran, including around 6,000 students. As part of the precautionary measures, about 600 students have already been moved from Tehran to Qom, a city considered relatively safer. On Monday evening, 110 students from Urmia reached the Armenian border in preparation for evacuation.
The MEA continues to monitor the situation closely and coordinate efforts to ensure the safety and timely return of Indian nationals stranded in the region.
