New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department has issued a "red alert" — its highest level of caution — for Delhi and surrounding areas in view of the likelihood of a severe dust storm, warning of winds gusting up to 100 km/h.
The sudden change in weather struck various parts of Delhi and NCR regions, including Gurugram, on Tuesday afternoon, triggering major traffic disruptions on the city's key roads.
In view of safety concerns, the Disaster Management Authority has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay away from trees, hoardings and overhead power lines.
