Dalit Youth Beaten to Death in Jharkhand

Palamu: In Teliyahi village of Palamu district, Jharkhand, a 22-year-old Dalit youth named Pawan Ram was brutally beaten to death on Saturday night, allegedly for attempting to steal a tractor battery. The attackers tied him up and assaulted him with rods and other weapons.
Police reached the scene and rushed the severely injured youth to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Locals told investigators that neither the battery nor the vehicle was found.
Police suspect that the alleged theft was fabricated and that the attack may have been motivated by opposition to the youth visiting a girl. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Mob Violence on the Rise
In the past five days, around a dozen mob attacks have been reported across major cities in Jharkhand, including Jamshedpur, Ranchi, and Dhanbad.
Yesterday, in Piparwar, Chatra district, a person was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of attempting to abduct children. Police later found that the individual was mentally ill and had no connection to any kidnapping. In the first week of January, a young man in Godda district was beaten over allegations of theft.
Local media reports indicate that most victims of such attacks are Dalits or people living in poverty. Police investigations often stall, and these incidents fuel distrust, fear, and social division within communities.
