D Raja Elected as the CPI General Secretary

Chandigarh: D Raja was unanimously elected as the General Secretary of the CPI at the party congress held in Chandigarh. This is the third time that Raja, a 76- year -old native of Vellore, Tamil Nadu, is leading the CPI. Raja, who became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 2007 and 2013, has been a member of the National Executive since 1994.
From Kerala, the National Council members include Binoy Vishwam, K Prakash Babu, P Santosh Kumar, K P Rajendran, P P Sunir, K Rajan, P Prasad, J Chinchurani, Chittayam Gopakumar, G R Anil, Rajaji Mathews, P Vasantham, Govindan Pallikappil, and T J Anjelos.
The party congress elected 125 members to the National Council, 31 members to the Executive, and 11 members to the National Secretariat. From Kerala, 12 members were elected to the National Council, including K Prakash Babu and P Santosh Kumar, who were elected from the central region.
