CPI(M) Polit Bureau Extends Solidarity With Kerala’s Satyagraha, Slams Centre’s Financial Neglect

New Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed full solidarity with Kerala’s satyagraha and extended support to the Left Democratic Front Government, saying the protest reflects the state’s fight to protect its constitutional rights and resist the Centre’s assault on federalism.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Polit Bureau said the agitation is directed against the Union Government’s continued financial neglect of Kerala and the denial of its rightful dues. It said the state has suffered severe revenue losses over the past five years due to what it described as discriminatory financial policies adopted by the Centre.

Kerala has incurred a loss of about 57,000 crore rupees during this period as its share in tax devolution, grants and scheme funds has been reduced. Restrictions have also been imposed on the state’s borrowing limits by misinterpreting constitutional provisions, further tightening Kerala’s financial position.

The Polit Bureau pointed out that Kerala’s share in central taxes has fallen sharply from 3.875 per cent under the Tenth Finance Commission to just 1.925 per cent under the Fifteenth Finance Commission. In the 2024–25 financial year alone, this reduction has resulted in a loss of around 27,000 crore rupees. It also noted that several payments due to the state have been withheld by the Union Government, creating serious constraints on Kerala’s finances.

Describing Kerala as a model for development and welfare for the rest of the country, the CPI(M) leadership said the state is only demanding what is legitimately owed to it and not seeking any special favour. The Polit Bureau called on the Union Government of India to address Kerala’s genuine concerns and immediately end what it termed a financial vendetta against the state.

The statement also greeted the people of Kerala for participating in the satyagraha in large numbers under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly, and said the mass mobilisation reflects the collective resolve of the state to defend its rights.
