New Delhi: The CPI(M) Polit Bureau has called on the people of India to mount strong protests against the United States’ attack on Venezuela, describing it as a serious violation of international norms. In a statement issued on Saturday, the party demanded that the U.S. immediately disclose the whereabouts of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and provide proof of their well-being, if they are alive. The Polit Bureau also urged the Government of India to take up the issue at the international level and press for U.S. compliance with the UN Charter.

The statement comes amid escalating military actions by U.S. forces against Venezuela. Reports indicate that the U.S. has bombed civilian residential areas in the country, with multiple air strikes carried out in Caracas and surrounding areas.

Reuters reported explosions at several locations, stating that at least seven blasts were heard in and around the Venezuelan capital. Following the air strikes, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that President Maduro and his wife had been taken into custody by American forces.

Several countries have condemned the U.S. attack, expressing outrage over the violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty. However, the Government of India has yet to respond to the ongoing situation.
