New Delhi: Juan Carlos Marsan Aguilera, Ambassador of Cuba to India, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the CPI(M) headquarters, AK Gopalan Bhawan, in New Delhi and invited the party to attend the birth centenary celebrations of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro Ruz in Havana.

According to a post shared by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on X, CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby and Polit Bureau member and Head of the party's International Department R Arun Kumar received the Cuban envoy during the visit.

The leaders reaffirmed the CPI(M)'s solidarity with the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban people during their discussions.

The meeting also reviewed plans to organise programmes in India to commemorate the anniversary of the Moncada Barracks attack, observed on July 26, and the birth centenary of Fidel Castro, which falls on August 13. The CPI(M) said these events are intended to strengthen the long-standing ties of friendship and solidarity between the people of India and Cuba.

In its post, the party also expressed support for Cuba, stating that the commemorative programmes assume added significance as the country faces what it described as escalating imperialist threats and the continuing United States blockade.
