New Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has welcomed the implementation of the first phase of the recently announced ‘peace deal’ between Israel and Hamas, which includes a ceasefire and provisions for the exchange of prisoners and hostages.
However, the CPI M expressed concern over Israel’s past violations of ceasefire agreements, emphasising that such breaches must not recur. CPI M called on the United States, which it said facilitated the deal, to ensure Israel’s compliance with the ceasefire, while urging the international community to continue exerting pressure to prevent the resumption of hostilities.
The party also reaffirmed its stance that Israel must comply with all relevant UN resolutions on Palestine and end its occupation of Palestinian territories. CPI M stated that a just and lasting peace in the region can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
