New Delhi: The CBSE has issued a notification asking its affiliated schools to promote digital payments. The move comes after the Central government decided to impose charges on UPI transactions and follows a directive received from the Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Union Ministry of Finance.

The CBSE's move to promote digital payments could affect students and parents if charges are imposed on digital transactions. The Union Ministry of Finance had issued a notification to impose additional charges on UPI, RuPay and debit card transactions above Rs 2,000.

Schools have been directed to introduce digital payment facilities for various services, including fee payments, canteen services, library services and other school-related transactions. The CBSE said the notification was issued with the approval of the board's competent authority.
