CBSE Re-evaluation Portal Faces Massive Cyberattack, Board Says Systems Remain Secure

New Delhi: The official portal for re-evaluation applications of Class 10 and Class 12 examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education reportedly came under a major cyberattack shortly after applications opened.

According to CBSE officials, approximately 1.5 million cyberattack attempts were detected within two minutes of the portal becoming operational. The board stated that its security infrastructure responded immediately, preventing any disruption to services.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the incident was a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, in which large volumes of traffic from numerous sources were directed at the website with the apparent aim of overwhelming the system and rendering the portal inaccessible.

CBSE's IT division said that despite the scale of the attack, there was no breach of student data or application records. Officials maintained that the portal remained secure throughout the incident.

The board stated that once the attack was detected, suspicious international traffic was blocked and additional security filters were activated. As a result, the portal reportedly continued functioning normally without significant slowdown or downtime.

Students can continue submitting re-evaluation applications online without interruption, CBSE said. The board also noted that this year's application process includes enhanced digital verification measures, including Aadhaar-based authentication and other security checks.

Given the seriousness of the incident, CBSE has reportedly lodged a complaint with central cybersecurity agencies. An investigation has been initiated to identify those responsible for the attack and determine its origin.
