The Central Bureau of Investigation has issued a summons to TVK founder and actor Vijay to appear on Januray 12 in connection with the Karur Stampede case, media reports.

The recent move comes after the agency questioned and recorded statements of TVK leaders as part of its investigation into the tragedy.

Karur stampede occurred on September 27, 2025 during a TVK political rally in Tamil Nadu's Karur district, following a massive crowd surge as supporters gathered in large numbers for Vijay's address. 41 people died during the stampede and dozens of people got injured.

Following the accident, the case was turned over to CBI following the Supreme Court directive for an independent probe. After the Karur stampede, the Madras High Court directed the Tamil Nadu government to frame and submit a draft Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for political rallies and public meetings to improve safety protocols for mass events in the state.
