New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday questioned actor and Vijay at its headquarters in connection with the Karur stampede, officials said. This was the third round of questioning of the actor, who had earlier been questioned twice in January.

Vijay had initially been summoned on March 9 but requested the agency to defer the questioning by 15 days. He also asked that the interrogation be conducted in Chennai or at any CBI office in Tamil Nadu, citing political commitments related to the upcoming Assembly elections. However, the agency declined both requests and asked him to appear at its headquarters in New Delhi.

The CBI has also summoned DMK MLA Senthil Balaji to appear for questioning on March 17 as part of the investigation.

The probe agency took over the case from a Special Investigation Team following an order of the Supreme Court of India. The investigation relates to the stampede that occurred on September 27, 2025, during a rally led by Vijay in Karur, which claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured.

In October last year, the apex court directed the CBI director to appoint a senior officer to lead the investigation and also constituted a supervisory committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the investigation.
