Delhi Court Issues Notice on Wrestlers' Appeal Against Brij Bhushan Singh's Acquittal in Sexual Assault Case

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday issued notice on an appeal filed by four female wrestlers challenging a magistrate's verdict that acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a sexual harassment case.

Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh issued notice to Singh, former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar and the state. The matter has been posted for further proceedings on October 9.

The criminal appeal, filed on September 25, also challenges Tomar's acquittal on the charge of criminal intimidation.

On August 3 this year, the magisterial court acquitted Singh, a former BJP MP, citing lack of evidence. The case had been filed by six female wrestlers, including world championships medallist Vinesh Phogat.
