BRICS Summit to Conclude in New Delhi Today; Expanded Session with Partner Countries

New Delhi: The 18th BRICS Summit will conclude in New Delhi today. The main event on the second day will be an expanded session involving BRICS partner countries. The meeting will begin at 10 am.

Representatives of partner countries outside the core BRICS membership will also participate in the discussions. The session will primarily focus on the global economic situation, multilateral cooperation, development, international peace and the challenges faced by developing countries.

Leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian remain in Delhi. The second-day session aims to expand BRICS cooperation through engagement with partner countries and give greater global prominence to the positions of developing nations.

Leaders are also expected to express their positions on changes in the international economic system, trade and investment cooperation, technology, energy security and greater representation for developing countries in global institutions. The summit's official theme is based on resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability.

The New Delhi Declaration, unanimously adopted by the member countries on the first day, is the summit's key political outcome. Expressing deep concern over the attacks and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the declaration called for the full implementation of a ceasefire and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.

BRICS opposed the forced displacement of the Palestinian people and attempts to alter the geographic and demographic character of Gaza. The declaration called for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, and for Palestine to be granted full membership in the United Nations.

The two-day summit will conclude in the evening after the discussions are completed.
