Patna: Bihar has decided to dismiss more than 3,000 teachers who obtained positions in schools using forged certificates, following a major irregularity uncovered in an investigation by the Bihar Vigilance Bureau. State Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari officially announced the government's decision.
Criminal cases will be registered against those who fraudulently secured teaching posts using fake documents, and they will be required to return, with interest, all salary and benefits drawn from the public exchequer during their period of service. The massive fraud was found in appointments made between 2006 and 2015.
Investigators found that some of those involved had submitted certificates from fake educational institutions to secure their jobs. FIRs have already been registered by the Vigilance Bureau against the guilty teachers.
Meanwhile, some teachers, fearing action, had attempted to resign just before departmental disciplinary proceedings were initiated. Authorities have said they will proceed with strong legal action against those who resigned as well, including recovery of salary amounts paid to them.
