Bengaluru: Senior Congress leader and Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has come under sharp criticism after inaugurating a chariot procession organised by the ABVP, the student wing of the RSS, sparking debates over his apparent tilt toward Hindutva politics.
The event, held in Tiptur, Tumakuru district, marked the memorial day of freedom fighter Rani Abbakka. Visuals surfaced showing Parameshwara participating alongside ABVP members and offering floral tributes. His presence was warmly welcomed by both the BJP and the ABVP.
Amid mounting backlash, Parameshwara offered a clarification, insisting that he had not attended an ABVP program. He maintained that he merely stepped out of his car after noticing a procession in honor of Rani Abbakka.
The incident comes close on the heels of another controversy, when Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar drew criticism in the Karnataka Assembly for reciting the RSS’s Gana Geetam (anthem).
