Aligarh University Teacher Shot Dead on Campus

Aligarh: A teacher was shot dead inside the campus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh. The victim has been identified as Rao Danish Ali, a computer teacher at the ABK School under AMU.


The shooting took place around 9 pm on Wednesday near the Maulana Azad Library on the university campus. As usual, Danish Ali had gone for a walk on the campus along with his colleagues.


When he reached near the canteen behind the library, two assailants who arrived on a motorcycle opened fire at him. He was shot in the head and collapsed on the spot.


He was immediately rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, but his life could not be saved. Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired four to five rounds. The murder, which occurred in a highly secured zone within the university campus, has triggered widespread protests and shock.


Police said the attackers had covered their faces and fled the scene on the motorcycle after the shooting. The motive behind the killing is not yet clear.


Police are investigating whether the murder was the result of personal enmity or if other factors were involved. Following the incident, a senior police team led by Aligarh SSP Neeraj Jadon reached the spot and conducted an inspection.


CCTV footage from across the campus has been collected to help identify the attackers. The university administration has expressed deep shock over the incident. Danish Ali was also the son-in-law of a former Uttar Pradesh MLA.
