CPI M PB Demands Action Over Sangh Parivar Christmas Attacks

New Delhi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) convened on 26th December 2025 in New Delhi, issuing a detailed communique addressing multiple pressing issues. The party condemned attacks on minorities during Christmas, criticised the government’s scrapping of MGNREGA, and opposed the notification of labour codes seen as anti-worker.

It expressed concern over violence in Assam, the bail of a convicted BJP MLA in the Unnao case, and ecological threats to the Aravalis. Internationally, it denounced US aggression against Venezuela and raised alarm over the situation in Bangladesh.

Attacks on Minorities: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly condemned attacks on Christians by Hindutva groups, including the Bajrang Dal, which disrupted Christmas celebrations in several parts of the country. The party accused the government of deliberate inaction, alleging that it is facilitating such incidents as part of a broader agenda to undermine the secular character of the State and establish a Hindu Rashtra. The CPI M demanded that the authorities uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution and called for the immediate identification, arrest, and punishment of those responsible for the attacks.

Scrapping of MGNREGA: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised the BJP-led Union Government for replacing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with a new scheme, VBGRAMG, describing it as a “severely diluted” programme that fundamentally changes the rights- and demand-based nature of the employment guarantee. According to the CPI M, the newly enacted Act shifts the financial burden from the Centre to the states while denying them any meaningful role in implementation. The party said the move, passed using the government’s parliamentary majority, is detrimental to the interests of millions of rural workers. CPI M has expressed support for ongoing protests by various organisations and stated it will join these efforts to strengthen the resistance in the coming days.

Notification of Labour Codes: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised the BJP-led Union Government for notifying the four labour codes, describing the move as part of its “anti-worker policies.” The party said the labour law reforms, enacted despite widespread opposition from workers, disproportionately benefit corporate interests aligned with the government. CPI M noted that the working class has already begun mobilising in protest against the changes and announced that it will extend its full support to these struggles, actively participating in efforts to challenge the new labour codes.

Attacks in Assam: The Polit Bureau has expressed grave concern over the violence that has broken out in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, leading to two deaths and substantial destruction of property. The situation is being aggravated by clashes between groups along ethnic lines. This adverse development is the result of the ‘double-engine’ government in Assam and its approach of allowing ethnic fault lines to fester, thereby paving the way for polarisation. It is also a consequence of aggressive policies relating to eviction from land.

Bail to Former BJP MLA Convicted in Unnao Rape Case: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed strong concern over the Delhi High Court’s decision to grant bail to Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a former BJP MLA convicted in the rape of a minor girl in Unnao and in the custodial killing of her father. CPI M criticised the court for failing to consider the survivor’s testimony detailing violent and coercive attempts by Sengar to influence her and other witnesses. Although Sengar has not yet been released on technical grounds, the party described the bail order as a "black mark on the judicial system' that undermines survivors’ confidence in seeking justice.

The CPI M also highlighted a broader pattern of rising violence against women, Dalits, and Adivasis since the BJP assumed power at the Centre, particularly in BJP -ruled states. The party alleged that the failure of governments to act decisively against offenders, coupled with indirect support, has emboldened perpetrators, reflecting what it termed the “anti-women, anti-Dalit, Manuvadi mindset” of the current ruling dispensation.

Destruction of Aravalis: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has raised concerns over recent changes proposed by the BJP government to the definition of the Aravalis, which have been accepted by the Supreme Court. The party warned that the alterations could pave the way for mining and real estate activities that threaten the ecologically sensitive hill ranges. CPI M described the government’s clarifications as insufficient and called for a fundamental policy revision by the Ministry of Environment, including a restoration of the original definition of the Aravalis, to ensure genuine protection of these fragile ecosystems.

Situation in Bangladesh: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed deep concern over the situation in Bangladesh, criticising the interim government for failing to prevent attacks on religious minorities. The party condemned recent incidents, including the setting ablaze of a Hindu youth and assaults on cultural organisations and media outlets, warning that such developments threaten the country’s security and unity. CPI M urged the people of Bangladesh to remain united against religious fundamentalist forces and called on the government to take immediate action to curb divisive elements and protect the rights of minorities.

Attack on Venezuela: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has condemned what it described as US aggression against Venezuela, criticising plans for a potential military intervention. The party said the newly adopted US National Security Strategy demonstrates an intent to enforce the Monroe Doctrine in Latin America, violating the sovereignty of nations and contravening the UN Charter. CPI(M) warned that such actions reflect the hegemonic ambitions of the United States and called on progressive, democratic, and patriotic forces worldwide to unite in opposing US intervention in Venezuela and across the region.

Concluding its communique, the CPI M extended New Year greetings and reaffirmed its commitment to opposing anti -people policies. CPI M announced that its next Central Committee meeting will be held from 16 to 18 January 2026 in Trivandrum, Kerala.
