Red Alert in Eight Districts, Orange Alert in Four; Wayanad, Alappuzha Schools to Remain Closed Tomorrow

Wayanad: The District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Wayanad district as heavy rainfall continues and a red alert remains in force.


The holiday will apply to all educational institutions, including anganwadis, religious education classes, tuition centres, training institutions, special classes and professional colleges. However, the holiday will not apply to residential schools and residential colleges.


Heads of residential schools and colleges have been directed to ensure the safety of students. Depending on the situation, institutions may declare a holiday while prioritising student safety.


The public has been asked to strictly follow all restrictions issued by the district administration in connection with the red alert. Tourists have been advised to exercise extreme caution, remain at safe places of accommodation and strictly follow instructions issued by authorities.


Travellers using the Thamarassery Ghat Road and the Boys Town–Palchuram route have been urged to remain highly cautious. People have also been advised to avoid non-essential travel as far as possible.


Meanwhile, the Alappuzha District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the district on Wednesday. The holiday will apply to all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres. Previously scheduled public examinations will be held as planned.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for eight districts where extremely heavy rainfall is likely. The districts under red alert are Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.


An orange alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.


On Wednesday, an orange alert will be in force in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.


On Thursday, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts will remain under an orange alert.


A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts will be under a yellow alert.


On Thursday, a yellow alert will be in force in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
