Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader V M Sudheeran has come under a wave of online abuse after coming out strongly against Chief Minister V D Satheesan's decisions on the liquor tax cut and the black sand mining move. Supporters of Satheesan have led the attack, with comments calling for Sudheeran to be expelled from the party, telling him to stay quietly at home in his old age, and making distasteful remarks suggesting that "idealists" like him should now retire from public life. The barrage of comments came in response to Sudheeran's Facebook post.

At the same time, several comments have praised Satheesan and welcomed his decisions, with some describing him as "a new symbol of credibility." Sudheeran had strongly criticised the budget proposal granting a tax concession on low-strength liquor, saying the issue does not call for discussion but for the outright withdrawal of the proposal.
