Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has approved the alignment for the first phase of the Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project, marking a major step towards transforming the capital’s urban landscape.
The proposed corridor will connect Technopark’s three phases, the airport, Thampanoor bus stand, the railway station, the Secretariat, and the Medical College. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) will implement the project.
The 31-kilometre stretch will run from Pappanamcode to Eanchakkal, passing through Killippalam, Palayam, Sreekariyam, Kazhakkoottam, Technopark, Kochuveli, and the airport. It will include 27 stations, with Kazhakkoottam, Technopark, and Karyavattom serving as interchange stations.
As part of preparatory work, KMRL has been tasked with constructing flyovers at Sreekariyam, Ulloor, and Pattom. The Sreekariyam flyover is currently progressing at a fast pace. Officials said the Metro project will provide a major boost to the city’s infrastructure and future growth.
