New Delhi: The Supreme Court has accepted Kerala’s demand regarding the appointment of Vice Chancellors in Kerala’s Digital and Technical Universities. Retired Supreme Court judge Sudhanshu Dhulia has been appointed as the chairperson of the search committee.
Kerala had urged the court to follow the Bengal model and appoint a judge as the chairperson of the search committee, arguing that otherwise equality within the committee could not be ensured. The Supreme Court acted accordingly.
The court directed that two members each be selected from the lists proposed by the state government and the Chancellor to form the search committee. The committee must be constituted within two weeks, and its report should be submitted to the Chief Minister. The Supreme Court further stated that the appointment of VCs in both universities must be completed within two months.
