Sabarimala Pilgrim Killed, Two Seriously Injured as Car Hits Lorry

Muvattupuzha: One person was killed and two others sustained serious injuries after a car carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh collided with a container lorry on the MC Road near Muvattupuzha on Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 5.30 am at Thrikkalathoor while the pilgrims were returning after darshan at the Sabarimala temple. Five people were travelling in the car. Police said the group had arrived in Kerala via the Nedumbassery airport and had travelled to Sabarimala and back by taxi.

The car rammed into the container lorry, causing the heavy vehicle to overturn and block the carriageway. Local residents rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, but one person succumbed to injuries. One of the seriously injured was shifted to a private hospital in Aluva, while the others are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Muvattupuzha. One person travelling with the group escaped without injuries.

Police said traffic on the MC Road was disrupted for several hours as the overturned lorry remained stuck in the middle of the road. Efforts to clear the vehicle were delayed due to traffic congestion, which prevented a crane from reaching the spot promptly.
