Thiruvananthapuram: When the probe into the Sabarimala gold smuggling case began, Congress claimed it had no involvement. However, the situation has now shifted, with the case reportedly reaching Indian National Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said P Rajeev, Minister for Industries, Coir, and Law.

The Special Investigation Team should examine when Potty first arrived at Sabarimala and track his activities from that point onward. Congress had once ensured that the Bellary Lok Sabha constituency remained a stronghold, and now reports suggest that the smuggled gold was brought to Bellary. There appear to be gaps in these accounts, making it essential to scrutinise all details carefully. Not only will Potty’s 2019 visit be investigated, but his other activities will also come under scrutiny.

We fully recognise the progress of the investigation. It is worth noting that Congress initially obstructed the normal functioning of the Legislative Assembly, arguing that there was no need to form a Special Investigation Team. Ironically, the same opposition leader who led the disruption now claims he never doubted the SIT. Yet, no media outlet has questioned this. While the Assembly continued to diligently pass laws, the opposition opted to boycott the proceedings solely to protest the constitution of the SIT.
