RSS Leader TG Mohandas Arrested Over Hate Remarks Against Jantar Mantar Protesters

Thiruvananthapuram: RSS leader TG Mohandas has been arrested over alleged hate remarks targeting students who participated in the protest at Jantar Mantar. Police had registered a case against Mohandas on July 29 after he allegedly called for the protesters to be shot and made derogatory remarks about women.

The Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Crime Police registered the case under provisions related to incitement, insult and offences involving the use of computer systems. His arrest came on the 11th day after the case was registered, following mounting criticism over the delay in police action.

Mohandas was taken into custody from Kochi and brought to Thiruvananthapuram. He was expected to be produced before a court around 11 am.

The Cyber Crime Police conducted a search at Mohandas's residence in Cherallayi, Mattancherry, from around 5 pm on Sunday. He was questioned for more than two hours before being taken to Karuvelipady Taluk Hospital for a medical examination around 7.50 pm.

Police also reportedly seized digital devices allegedly used to record and publish the video, including a laptop, camera and mobile phone. He was subsequently taken to Thiruvananthapuram for detailed questioning.

The search and detention led to tension after BJP workers gathered outside the residence and allegedly attempted to provoke the situation by raising slogans.

Mohandas had made the controversial remarks through his YouTube channel, triggering widespread outrage on social media and elsewhere. The case followed a complaint submitted to the Home Minister by AIYF state secretary TT Jismon.

Police faced criticism for not taking immediate action after the case was registered. The arrest came amid growing protests and demands for action over the alleged hate speech.
