Thiruvananthpauram: Rahul Mamkootathil, the MLA accused of brutally sexually assaulting a young woman and forcing her to undergo an unsafe abortion, continues to remain absconding. Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Malayali woman living in Bengaluru has told investigators that the MLA had come to her home and threatened her. This, she said, was the reason for the delay in filing the complaint. She also stated that she fears Congress leader Fenny Nainan, a close associate of Rahul.

According to the survivor’s statement, Rahul grew close to her by promising marriage. When she visited Kerala, he allegedly took her to a homestay saying he had something to discuss and raped her. She also stated that afterward, Rahul told her he was not willing to marry her.

The district principal sessions court will pronounce its verdict today on Rahul Mamkootathil's anticipatory bail plea in the second rape case. Rahul went into hiding after the survivor in the first sexual assault case against him submitted a complaint with evidence to the Chief Minister on November 27. Soon after, another 23-year-old Malayali woman residing in Bengaluru filed a complaint alleging that Rahul had sexually assaulted her and inflicted injuries all over her body.
