Slogans, Banners Against Mamkootathil; Police Produce Accused in Court Amid Massive Protest

Thiruvalla: Widespread protests erupted as Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is lodged at the Mavelikkara Special Sub Jail as an accused in a third rape case, was being brought to court.

Hundreds of SFI and DYFI activists gathered near the Thiruvalla Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, staging strong demonstrations against him. The protests led to heightened security in and around the court premises as police were deployed in large numbers to manage the situation.

When Rahul was brought to the Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital for medical examination, large-scale protests erupted. A significant number of DYFI workers staged demonstrations at the hospital, while protests continued all along the route taken by the police.

Strong protests were also reported inside and around the Mavelikkara jail, and demonstrators have gathered at the Thiruvalla court premises as well. A heavy police presence has been deployed to control the situation. Despite the widespread protests by youth organisations, Rahul Mamkootathil is reportedly showing no remorse or sense of guilt.
