Pathanamthitta: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the home of Alin Sherin Abraham, the infant who created history in Kerala’s organ donation movement, and conveyed his condolences to the grieving family. Interacting with her parents and relatives, the Chief Minister praised them for delivering a powerful message of compassion and humanity by consenting to organ donation despite their profound personal loss.

He said the family’s decision had become an inspiration to society and affirmed that the people of Kerala stand in solidarity with them in their time of grief. Health Minister Veena George and Raju Abraham, CPI(M) Pathanamthitta district secretary, accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit.

Alin was the daughter of Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, natives of Mallappally in Pathanamthitta district. She was critically injured when the car in which she was travelling with her mother and relatives collided with an oncoming vehicle on the MC Road near Pallam Borma junction. Initially admitted to hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla, she was later shifted to Amrita Hospital, Kochi on February 7 for advanced treatment.

After doctors declared her brain-dead, her family made the courageous decision to donate her organs. In a deeply emotional moment for the state, ten-month-old Alin became the youngest organ donor in Kerala’s history. Her liver was transplanted into a six-month-old baby girl named Dhriya, who thereby became the youngest organ recipient in the state.

Though her life was tragically short, Alin’s legacy lives on through the lives she helped save — a testament to love and generosity that transcends loss.
