Kannur: A group of Muslim League workers attacked the Islamic Centre, the district headquarters of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama, at Thayatheri in Kannur. The attack took place while the SKSSF Mattannur regional council election was underway. A group of League workers forcibly entered the office and unleashed violence.

The SKSSF district committee intervened directly to resolve an issue after a council meeting, originally scheduled to be held at Pazhassi, was disrupted. The committee subsequently convened the meeting at the Samastha district headquarters in Kannur.

The attackers stormed the office while the meeting was in progress. A group of around 50 people, led by Muslim League district leader and Mattannur municipal councillor V N Muhammadali and Ayyub Kotheri, general secretary of the Muslim League's Keezhallur panchayat committee, barged into the office and attacked it.

The group also smashed the office's windowpanes and caused damage to the premises.
