Manorama News Admits Front-Page Eight-Column Report on Chellanam Accident by Sister Publication Malayala Manorama Was False

Thiruvananthapuram: Manorama News has admitted that a prominently displayed eight-column report published on the front page of Malayala Manorama was false. The report, which appeared with major prominence in multiple editions of Saturday’s newspaper, claimed that during a police inspection in Chellanam, a youth was pushed to the ground by police and that only an injured policeman was taken to the hospital.
The report further stated that the youth was left bleeding on the road and was later taken on another bike to Chettikad Hospital, located nearly 40 kilometres away, creating the impression that police had neglected to provide him medical assistance.
The story was published without any evidence and was widely criticised for allegedly misleading readers and portraying the government and police in a negative light. However, after CCTV footage from the hospital emerged, Manorama was forced to acknowledge the truth and issue a correction.
Manorama Channel itself shared a news post on its social media pages with the headline: “Chellanam accident: Allegations against police were completely false; CCTV visuals emerge.”
Following the admission, many readers have come forward criticising the publication for carrying an unverified and fake report with exceptional prominence on the newspaper’s front page.
