Kochi: The rift within the Malayalam film actors' organisation AMMA is widening, with veteran actress Mallika Sukumaran resigning from the organisation. The actress officially announced her exit through a Facebook post, saying she was stepping down "with love." She said she has always stood by truth and fairness, and also extended her support to actress and former president Shweta Menon.

The AMMA executive committee had resigned en masse yesterday, with all 17 members stepping down two years ahead of completing their term. Joint secretary Ansiba Hassan had resigned earlier. The entire committee resigned without facing any no-confidence motion.

Meanwhile, actress Lakshmipriya had also resigned from AMMA's membership, announcing her decision on the organisation's WhatsApp group. Lakshmipriya said she was submitting her resignation to senior members Smt. Kalady Omana, Ponnamma Babu and Usha Alappuzha, adding that if she were to die while they the other members of the group are still alive, no one should even come to see her body. She said there are a few people who genuinely love her, and that everyone else need not set foot inside her home.
