Humanity Beyond Religion: Kumaranallur Mecca Masjid Offers Space for Funeral Rites of Omana

Kottayam: In a heartwarming gesture of humanity, the Kottayam Kumaranallur Mecca Masjid Committee has demonstrated that compassion transcends religious boundaries. The mosque provided facilities for the last rites of Omana Rajendran (62), a woman of another faith, when her family faced difficulties due to the narrow road leading to their home.
Omana had been receiving treatment at the Medical College Hospital after falling ill and passed away on Thursday evening. Her family was left in a dilemma as the road to their house was too narrow to accommodate people and a vehicle, making it challenging to carry out the funeral arrangements.
In their time of need, Omana's husband, Rajendran, and their daughter, Jyothika, reached out to the Mecca Masjid officials for help. They requested the use of the mosque's madrasa hall for public viewing of the body and conducting the final rites. In response, the mosque officials agreed, clearing the hall and surrounding areas to accommodate the family. All necessary facilities were provided, and the rituals were completed on Friday evening. The body was later cremated at the Muttambalam SNDP crematorium.
Imam Abdul Karim Hadhi Kanzhar of Kumaranallur Mecca Masjid described the gesture as a fulfillment of a "completely humane duty." He also noted that this act of kindness took place just before the beginning of Ramadan, reflecting the mosque's commitment to compassion and unity. Imam Kanzhar emphasized that the mosque would continue to serve the community, regardless of caste or religion.
