Kochi Mayor VK Minimol Says Latin Catholic Church Intervention Helped Her Appointment

Kochi: Kochi Corporation Mayor VK Minimol has said that the intervention of the Latin Catholic Church was helpful in her being appointed to the post of mayor. The mayor made the remark while speaking at the General Assembly of the Kerala Region Latin Catholic Council (KRLCC).
She said that the strong voice raised by the Church on behalf of the community helped her reach this position. Minimol added that this is proof of the organisational strength of the Latin community and expressed her gratitude to the Church leadership.
Responding to the mayor’s statement, KRLCC president Varghese Chakkalakkal said there was nothing wrong with her remarks. Vice President Joseph Jude also clarified that the Church had spoken only to ensure due representation for the community. Although the UDF had actively considered the name of KPCC General Secretary Deepti Mary Varghese for the Kochi mayoral post, Minimol was finally chosen at the last moment after a period of uncertainty.
